Madison Waters knows exactly what she wants to do with her life. She’s already working for one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston as a research assistant, and in a few short months, she will finally graduate from Harvard and collect her law degree. Everything she’s worked so hard to accomplish is well within her reach.

But when Madison has to take an unexpected trip back home, she's blindsided by the one thing she never anticipated. A man who not only tests her patience but tempts her heart. Madison doesn’t have time for love, and a love as consuming as his will only derail her perfectly laid plans.

Desperate to escape his wicked past, Holden Brooks moved to Madison's hometown five years ago, hell-bent on overcoming the demons that nearly destroyed him back in Texas. He’s in a good place in his life. Love is the last thing on his mind until he tastes her honeysuckle skin and looks into those deep blue eyes.

Desire ignites when their paths collide, and they soon find out fate has a plan of its own.

Madison is about to graduate from Harvard and is on her way to being a lawyer. She has a good job as a research assistant in Boston and can move up within the ranks with the company.

Holden moved to the small town where Madison was raised about 5 years ago. His cousin Asher and him are more like brothers. Archer has helped him fight his darkness that brought him from Texas.

Madison has to unexpectedly go back home to see her father who is in the hospital. She has to go help her mom and make sure her dad is ok.

Once Madison is home she meets Holden and sparks fly. They both try to deny it because you can't start something when one life leads back to Boston and the other is not. But they figure out that the sparks cannot be denied. They go for the RIGHT NOW but realize they need more. FOREVER is ahead but to get there they have to compromise and possibly give up a part of themselves. Question is does LOVE win out in this situation or do you move forward with a piece of your heart missing.

It was a decent storyline. Bumps along the way as normal. Demons in the past but nothing to horrible. No major grammar errors that stood out, so pretty good editing. I feel that it lacked something even though I liked the characters. I still don't remember what happened with the father or why he was in the hospital. I would like I should remember that. I liked Katy, Madison's best friend and the next book in the series is about her character and Acher so it should be interesting.

Book Review: Sweet As Sin by J.T. Geissinger

Sweet As Sin
Bad Habit - Book #1
by J.T. Gissinger
Kindle Edition, 386 Pages
Source: Prime Loan

Goodreads | Amazon/Kindle

Twentysomething Kat Reid is loving life as an in-demand Hollywood makeup artist. She has absolutely no interest in rock ’n’ roll, but in order to pay the mortgage, she agrees to work on the set of a rock video for the world-famous rockers known as Bad Habit…which brings her face-to-face with Nico Nyx, lead singer of Bad Habit and Adonis in the flesh.

However, the fiercely independent Kat isn’t impressed by the hard-living, womanizing rock star. But when Nico’s model girlfriend shows up to the set drunk and Kat is tapped to replace her as the video’s sexy bride, her combustible chemistry with Nico suddenly threatens to consume the set. Nico feels it, too—and becomes determined to win Kat over, body and soul. Yet behind his rock god swagger, Nico hides a dark secret. Can he rock Kat’s world forever, or will he just break her heart?
Kat (makeup artist) meets Nico (rock God) while on assignment for a rock video. Her assignment to do Avery's (Nico's girlfriend and star of the video) makeup.Avery is not in any condition to work. Nico tells the producer that Kat will be taking Avery's place. Kat wants to argue but then Nico says the gig pays $30,000 and he will pay her in cash right now. That's half a years salary Kat can't say NO.

Kat and Nico get close in the video (Physically that is). Nico even kisses her. Then Nico asks if he can see her again. Kat tells Nico she will not be a notch on his belt and she will not sleep with him. Nico says challenge accepted. After Kat interrogates Nico about Avery and find out that Avery is not Nico's girlfriend no matter what the tabloids say. Kat agrees to a date. Kat is leary and untrusting in her life so this could prove difficult to win her over. Nico and Kat make a pact to TRUST each other and be honest.

Relationship blossoms and secrets are revealed about Nico's past and his family. How Nico knows Avery from when he was a young boy to his relationship with his brother Michael and what Michael does for a living.

Grace and Chloe are Kat's 2 best friends.
  • Grace is sweet, caring, loving, trusting & non-confrontational. Grace starts dating Officer Eric Cox, one of the police officers that helped Kat and her friends out of a potentially dangerous situation. You (the reader) like Eric and hope for the best for the young couple.
  • Chloe is a therapist of some kind and Chloe is the most interesting character to me. The author hits to her having amnesia about 12 years ago and she remembers nothing of who she was. But that is all we get on the subject. I definitely wanted more of this character and I'm sure since it is a series there will be a book for Chloe.
  • A.J. is part of Nico's band and he is always very angry. A.J. is always rude and mean to Grace. I think this is A.J. trying not to like Grace. I think A.J.'s character really likes Grace a lot and that scares him. And remember she has Officer Eric. Grace and A.J, are always fighting another indication that the 2 characters might get together one day.
This book has way to many secrets that have to be revealed. There was too much incestual information regarding Avery's secrets. And the secrets between Avery and Michael hide is disgusting. Another thing about this book is it is yet ANOTHER book about a main male character getting all primal, dominating, jealous, and possessive.  Not loving that. For these reasons I did not love this book. Way too much in the history of the characters and to much in the realm of weirdness for me. I would try the 2nd book in the series and hope that the secrets are more realistic.

Book Review: Repented by Sophie Monroe

(Battlescars - Book #4)
by Sphie Monroe
Kindle Edition, 371 Pages
Source: Ebook - Own

Goodreads | Kindle/Amazon

Repented is the fourth book in the bestselling Battlescars series. Repented picks up where Conflicted ended, and will lead into Cracked: A Guilty Tendencies Novel, but is NOT a cliffhanger!

When everything in your life becomes Conflicted, and you're left with more than your fair share of Battlescars, you may become Afflicted. But, in order to rise above the chaos, it's best to be Repented.

Kevin, the lead guitarist of Battlescars, hasn't always been the good guy people perceive him as.

When secrets from his past come out of the shadows and haunt him, his world comes crashing down. Can he be repented, or will his old ways scratch the surfaces and ruin everything?

This is Kevin’s story in book 3 Kevin’s wedding never happened and Bryn walked away. That was actually a really good thing for Kevin. Bryn was not meant to be with Kevin. Kevin slips a little with the sobriety but manages to pull himself up before he is in to deep.

Kevin picks up the tour bus for Jake and side swipes a girl named Bri. This author has a major issue with B names…. Brett, Bri, Bryn, Britt… to many for me to keep straight. Anyway Bri moves to Smithville in with her cousin Madison.

Kevin has a chance meeting with Madison and thinks he will never see the beauty again but he does and he thinks maybe this is fate.

My thoughts: 1st - Kevin cannot do (a little) cocaine and not have to go back to rehab. That sounds wrong to me. 2nd - Kevin’s parents are described as HIPPIES that are Free Spirited but they own a huge house and there is a Lambo in the driveway. NO… Hippies do not own huge houses or Lambo’s. I agree it makes sense that they own holistic and more NATURAL spas but I would never say they are hippies. I know hippies they are more, give all the money away to charity and I can live as a minimalist. I feel most of this is to unrealistic for me to really be in the moment with this story. Which is disappointing because I loved the others.

I also wish there was more background on Bri since some of the story was about Austin and Bri’s relationship. I wanted more on that story.

And what the heck happened to poor sweet Brittney. She was in book 3 got a job with the band as marketing and was never heard from again. Then we have the 3rd romance in the book with Peyton & Zach. All we see of Peyton is she is whinny and annoying and Zach is a horn dog who wants the rock star lifestyle with a chick waiting at home for him.

Rating: 2 Stars

I am hoping if there is a book 5 in the series that it will be a little better for me. This is a good series and don’t get me wrong most of the books are good.

Book Review: Conflicted by Sophie Monroe

Battlescars - Book #3
by Sophie Monroe
Kindle Edition, 224 Pages
Source: Ebook - Own

Goodreads | Kindle/Amazon

When you think about your life are there things you would reverse?
Derek Scott is the twenty-six year old drummer of Battlescars. With a past marred by tragedy, he has a hard time letting people in. He's also made his share of mistakes. Now, he's trying to come to terms with the choices he has made recently and what they mean for him.

When someone from his past comes back into his life, Derek thinks maybe he can get back on track. However, things unravel, leaving him more unclear than ever. When long kept secrets find him and force him to decide what really matters in his life, will he be able to choose a path - or will he always be conflicted?
Derek and Joss were a match made in HELL. They knew this but tried to keep it on the Lighter side. Three problems with that; First is Derek and Joss have a real connection that goes way back; Second is Joss is Blake's little sister; Third is they are a lot alike and that spells disaster.

Derek and Joss take the plunge and try to keep the feelings out of it but that does not happen. They try to move on from each other and it proves to be very difficult. Derek has a lot of secrets and a lot of them come out in this story. You see way Derek is so shut off and guarded and way he does not do relationships.

Story was good. Joss is refreshing with her honesty. Brittney you feel bad for and hope her character gets a better ending down the road.  Derek is just a sad character and even though this story gives him a happier ending I still feel sad for the character. There is a little cliffhanger but nothing to bad at the end of this one.

Book Review: Afflicted by Sophie Monroe

Battlescars - Book #2
by Sophie Monroe
Kindle Edition, 287 Pages

Goodreads | Kindle/Amazon

Fresh off tour Blake Potter, the sexy bassist for Battlescars, is in Smithville, Ohio to work on their next album ‘Coming Clean’. Still pining after Aubrey’s best friend, Piper, it’s going to be harder than he expected to see her back with her long-‐ term boyfriend, Cole. He’s trying his hardest to forget her, but not matter how hard he tries to stay away circumstances keep bringing them together. Being burned before, he refuses to let it happen again. He’s still struggling to let go of Rowan, the girl that made him the way he is.

Piper is fighting an uphill battle of her own. She’s working her ass off trying to make a name for herself as a tattoo artist. Her long-‐term boyfriend, Cole, was recently discharged from the Marines turning her world in a way that she never expected. When he begins leaving for days at a time Piper starts struggling to help him pick up the pieces. She calls the one person that might be able to help, Blake. He becomes the friend that she needs no matter how much it’s killing him.

What will happen when one phone call changes everything for both of them leading them in a path that neither anticipated? Pasts will come out of the shadows and threaten to ruin everything.
Piper and Blake

Piper and Blake had a friends and it became a fling. Piper being on again off again with her high school boyfriend Cole called it what it was, a FLING.

Cole joined the Marines and was discharged not to long ago. Suffering from PTSD and self medicating things get bad for the couple.

As Piper struggles with her feelings for Blake she tries to stay focused on Cole and her relationship. Doing her best to make it work. Piper knows it's not Coles fault that he changed.  Things with Cole change after a major slap in the face for him and Piper has to serious choice to make. One that will be life changing.

Blake wants Piper happy even if it is with Cole. That would devastate him but as long as she is happy it will not matter.

So Piper is stupid for staying with Cole and putting up with his attitude. He is a bomb really to detonate. Blake is patient and sweet and you of course want him to win the girl. You understand Piper's reluctance to throw away a 8 year relationship but see Cole treats her like crap. We don't get any flashbacks of what Cole was like before the Marines so to be honest we don't really know if he was always an ass. Blake's past is right there for us to see and you can see the character change for the better and try to be a better person to be who Piper needs.

Goodreads | Kindle/Amazon

Aubrey Thompson is a twenty-three year old flight attendant for her dad’s small commercial fleet. She’s a sarcastic smartass that has no problem telling you where to go. She also despises rock stars…but that’s all part of the story. Her Granny Jean is spy and will have you laughing out loud.

In comes Jake Parker, the twenty-five year old lead singer of Battlescars. His reputation is the untamable bad-boy. He’s completely “balls to the wall” in everything that he does. Two days after returning home from a month long tour across Europe he gets a visit from Bruce, an executive from the record label. He informs Jake that Battlescars is going back on tour for three months. What everyone doesn’t know is that Jake is worn down and sick of the same old shit.

His record label hires Aubrey’s dads company to fly him around for the last minute tour. In order to keep her dad's company afloat they will have to learn to play nice. When Jake first meets Aubrey she refuses to even acknowledge his existence. He sees her as refreshing and a challenge.

Both of them have some pretty heavy scars from their pasts holding them back. Can Jake get Aubrey to let him in? Or will she shoot him down based on his outlandish reputation? Will her fear of getting hurt again keep him out for good?

Are the two of them a match in heaven or hell?

Jake and Aubrey

Aubrey is a feisty stewardess working for her dad's private company, from Ohio originally. She is dedicated, loyal and does not take crap.

Jake is the lead singer for Battlescars. He was a pary boy with a string of one night stands, drinking and partying all hours of the night. But he decided 1 year ago to give all that up to be a better person. He wanted more out of life than a party.

Aubrey's dad needs her to fly around with Jake and his bodyguard Brett for a 3 month stint. She is not happy. Aubrey has been working non stop and just want to be home in her own bed to rest. Aubrey knows she has to do this to help the company stay afloat. They need some new clients, an entire band would be great income.

She puts Jake in his place day one and Jake is immediately smitten. Jake has his work cut out for him to win Aubrey's trust and heart. Aubrey has been hurt in her one and only relationship and trusts no one. She cannot be touched without flinching and freaking out, she does not date and never plans too.

Jake expresses his feeling sof LIKE to Aubrey and how he wants to be friends. Aubrey is skeptical. Jake says he is not what they portray him to be in the press and he changed the path he was on. Jake wants Aubrey to give friendship a chance. Aubrey decides a friendship would be good since they will be stuck together for at least 3 months.

Aubrey is confused when Jake touches her to catch her when she almost falls and her reaction is not to pull away. This is new territory for Aubrey and she decides to push her boundaries to see the extent of this new crazy friendship. Jake tells Aubrey they are friends for now but he wants her to be his girlfriend and he is willing to wait as long as it takes for her to trust him and make that happen.

Some grammatical errors but not too bad. The characters are fun. Jake is sweet. caring, loving and model hot. Aubrey is feisty, quick witted, stubborn, loyal, guarded and sweet.

Together the couple are opposites that fit perfectly together. Good story line that I'm sure you have seen a million times before nothing new with that.

Book Review: Treacherous by Chloe Walsh

(Carter Kids/Twisted Youth - Book #1)
by Chloe Walsh
Kindle Edition: 319 Pages
  • Source: Ebook - Own

Goodreads | Amazon/Kindle

Librarian's note: This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN: B00UCKHCTA.

"I wanted to go home."

"Moving to America wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the family next door. Because of my so-called guardian – and I used that term lightly – we were the latest family to take up residency in Thirteenth Street, and I was the sole target of the bitch over the fence."

"But, for me, life was about to get a lot worse."

"Noah Messina, Ellie's step-brother, had decided to join her torment-the-new-girl-until-she-cracks mission."

"There had been a fight in their driveway last weekend – between Noah and some other tattooed douchebag – that had progressed into our yard, resulting in the windshield of my car being smashed when Noah pummeled his opponent through it.

Thinking back now I had to admit that I sort of overreacted when I stalked outside in nothing but a Coldplay t-shirt and a black thong and tossed an entire can of white gloss paint over the hood of Noah's black Lexus in retaliation. I guess it had felt damn good to fight back instead of letting them walk all over me…"

"Destroying Noah's car with paint was like waving a red rag in front of a bull.

He lost it.
Right there in my driveway, with his t-shirt ripped from his body and blood dripping from his eyebrow, Noah Messina had thrown the biggest man-tantrum I'd ever seen before declaring war on me..."

"I was going to lose my shit over the girl-next-door."

"God, three months of having her live next door to me and I still felt like slamming my head into the garden wall – now worse than ever since she had challenged me."

"The defiance in her eyes as she stared at me down before bending over the hood of my baby and emptying the can of paint was something that struck a chord inside of me. I'd never been so angry or turned on in my life."

"Pure rage had flooded my veins, driven on even further when Teagan taunted me with her potty mouth and yeah, I'd kind of lost it with her. Problem was I had an even uglier temper, and Friday night Teagan Connolly ignited it like no one had before.
When she slapped me and pressed her tight little body against mine, taunting me with that sharp tongue of hers, I'd never been so close to putting my hands on a woman in my life.
Except instead of hurting her, I wanted to toss her sexy little ass on the hood of my car and take her right there, not caring who saw us. The urge to be inside her was like nothing I'd ever felt in my life..."

Warning: Due to its explicit content Treacherous is recommended for readers of eighteen years or above."
Teagan Connoly has moved to America with her uncle Max after the death of her mother.  Originally from Ireland Teagan has a lot to learn about the treacherous world around her and the boy next door (Noah).

Noah Messina is a survivor and a fighter. He is all kinds of bad boy but not by choice. Noah was dealt a bad hand with a schizophrenic, drug addicted mother (Kelsie). His father has been murdered and now he is stuck with the Dennis family. George Dennis married his mother and is straight from HELL with his daughter Ellie close on his heels. George has Noah by the balls (sort of speak) HE OWNS HIM. Noah is in a NO WAY out situation and must literally fight to survive and fight to protect the people he loves.

Teagan moves in next door to the Dennis family and Ellie hates her immediately since Teagan has caught Noah’s attention. Ellie makes Teagan’s life hell and Noah and Teagan fight constantly. I’m not even sure why Teagan is always fighting with Noah. Teagan takes Ellie’s actions of abuse out on Noah. Noah just tries to deal as best he can. He has more crap to worry about than the girl next door.

The Carter family lives across the street. Kyle and Lee and their kids Hope (Teagan’s bff), Logan (Low),  Cameron, and Colton. The Carter family is very nice to both Teagan and Noah. Logan and Hope are a big piece of the book but the others not so much.

To be honest the story was not edited well. There were a ton of grammatical errors and when the heading was the charter speaking sometimes those were not correct. Some of the characters were incorrect when mentioned in the body of the story and it was a little hard to follow because of these errors. Also a lot of character names were changed or nicknamed such as Logan is Low but was hard to follow since both names were used throughout the story. There was a scene at the ring of fire where a character was mentioned for the 1st time we have no idea who he is but that is the only time he is mentioned I actually think it was supposed to be Logan but they changed the name and missed some of them. I am hoping that the rest of the series is a bit better with the editing. I snagged Book #1 and #2 as freebies so nothing really lost. I did like the story but I feel more editing is really needed and a little more backstory to understand how all the characters are related or their relationship more defined.

The main story between Noah and Teagan was better once they stopped fighting with each other. Noah's character needed to be honest with Teagan and Teagan needed to stop being so bitchy and crazy. I would like to know more about Jordan and Hope's relationship and book #1.5 Always is supposed to tell us more. And I feel there is something weird with Jordan's dad or Uncle I can't even remember who he is to be honest but there is something strange there.

Rating: 1 ½ stars because of too many errors

Book Review: Talon by Carian Cole

(Ashes & Ember) Book #4
by Carian Cole
Kindle Edition 442 Pages
Source: Ebook - Own

Goodreads | Amazon/Kindle

Caring. Hard-working. A devoted family man, loves kids.
Clean cut, funny, smart, quiet, but a good communicator.

~ Asia Jenson

Independent. Tall, blonde, sexy. Outgoing. Intelligent, neat. Unslutty. Confident. Loves to travel. Committed.
~ Talon Valentine

The concept was scary but exciting...
Marry a total stranger.
Live together for six months.
Journal everything. (Feelings. Fights. All of it.)

After six months, we each get $50K in trade for our journals, whether we stay married or not. But the goal is to commit to the experience and see if the relationship experts could put together the perfect matches.

I have never been lucky in love. This was my chance to find my soulmate.

I couldn’t wait to meet the man the experts felt was perfect for me.
My hopes were immediately dashed when I saw him at the altar.
Shit. I married my worst nightmare.

~ This story is not a reality show. It's a serious social experiment run by a psychologist and it's all discrete. The characters are not on TV or followed around with cameras. They are alone ~

Talon is tall, long hair, tattoos, rock star, likes to drink, likes to party, a bit of a manwhore.

Asia is sweet, caring, loving, shy, untrusting, pet lover, vegetarian, short, dark hair, artsy, nonslutty.

They both enter A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT. This is where you list what you want in a partner and get paired up by experts to hopefully find your soul mate. You have to marry a perfect stranger that you don't meet or ever talk to until the wedding day. You live together for 6 months, journal everything and you get $50,000.

What they want in a partner:
--Asia Jenson wants a caring, hard-working, devoted family man, someone you loves kids. He needs to be clean cut, funny, smart, quiet, but a good communicator. What she gets is a man with long hair, tattoos with the profession of rock star. He is caring, hard-working, funny and smart.

--Talon Valentine wants an independent, tall, blonde, sexy. outgoing, intelligent, neat, unslutty, confident woman. Someone who loves to travel and is committed. What he gets is a shy, untrusting, short, brunette who is cute and always doubting herself. She hates to travel and does not eat meat. She is unslutty, neat, and intelligent.

They feel like they got screwed. This will never work. They both decide to give it a chance and try to see why they were picked for each other.

They become friends and start having a good relationship. Asia made it clear that she needs to have real feelings for Talon before she will have sex with him. Talon understand and tries to stick it out and gain her trust. As they progress some things start to knock them down but for the most part they handle everything pretty well.

I feel madly in love with Asia. She is super cute and creative with soap making, clothing making, and jewelry making. (I myself make my own lotions, bath salts, body washes and jewelry. I have not gotten into sewing yet but I am trying to get into that next.) She was given a crappy family and had to make the most of it at 17. She does what she has to in order to pay her rent and get by in her crappy one bedroom apartment with her cute little cat name Princess Pixie.

I like when Talon goes to Asia's place he already cares enough to want to give her more even if they don't stay together after the experiment is over. I love how he freaks out about PIXIE and was saying I did not sign up for a cat. And later on loves little Pixie and needs her to sleep next to him in order for him to sleep better. That tugged on my heart.

They are given an awkward situation and try to stay positive and don't want to give up on the chance they might really work out.
