Dublin native Freda Wilson considers herself to be an acquired taste. She has a habit of making offensive jokes and speaking her mind too often. She doesn't have the best track record with first impressions, which is why she gets a surprise when her new neighbour Nicholas takes a shine to her.

Nicholas is darkly handsome, funny and magnetic, and Freda feels like her black and white existence is plunged into a rainbow of colour when she's around him. When he walks into a room he lights it up, with his quick wit and charisma. He is a travelling cabaret performer, but Freda doesn't know exactly what that entails until the curtains pull back on his opening night.

She is gob-smacked and entirely intrigued to see him take to the stage in drag. Later on, Nicholas asks her if she would like to become his show assistant. Excited by the idea, she jumps at the chance. Soon she finds herself immersed in a world of wigs, make-up and high heels, surrounded by pretty men and the temptation of falling for her incredibly beautiful employer.

In this story of passion and sexual discovery, Nicholas and Freda will contend with jealousy, emotional highs and lows, and the kind of love that only comes around once in a lifetime.

***WARNING**** If you have issues with homosexuality, rape, sexual situations, and questionable language..... then this book is NOT for you.

When I read the description of this story it was very interesting to me.  I like to think I am a pretty open minded person so the idea of a straight man having the career of a drag queen was very intriguing to me.

Freda Wilson lives in Dublin and makes cupcakes every morning at 5:00 am to deliver by bicycle to the local bakery.  Her second job is working in a thrift store 2 days a week for a couple of hours. She is roommates with her best friend since college Nora. Her life is simple and she likes it that way for the most part.  Until she meets Nicholas and her life goes from drab to colorful drag.

A handsome new neighbor moves in their building.  Literally, right next door.  Nora of course being boy crazy is already planning their wedding.  The sexy stranger and herself of course.  Freda runs into the sexy new neighbor and finds out his name is Nicholas and he is coming over for dinner.  She likes him right away with his quick wit and beautiful face.  She also knows that men complicate things and sees Nora already smitten with him.

During dinner Nicholas's attention is all on Freda.  Nora is a little annoyed at this but does not give up her quest.  That is not until Nicolas invites them to his show and Nora finds out he is a drag queen.  Even when Nora finds out that Nicholas is straight she thinks he is a freak and wants to just be friends.  This is great news for Freda because she finds him amazing and things are heating up between them.

Nicholas asks Freda to be his assistant for his shows in a rouse to spend more time with her.  She agrees because she finds Nicholas very entertaining.  The two become closer and closer with Freda trying to fight off her feelings for Nicholas knowing that he is the love them and leave them type.  Freda wants Nicholas in her life.  He is a good friend and she loves his company.  Nicholas feels the same about Freda but Nicholas also wants Freda is his bed.

One thing I absolutely adore about Freda's character is her filter.  Freda talks about her internal filter never working properly because she just says what she thinks.  I myself have this same issue and could relate to some of those situations she found herself in with the filtering problem.

This story was very well written and even though there were some sad parts it was just a nice story without too much drama and stress.  Which is nice for a change from a lot of the romances that are out there today.  I found that Freda with her open-mindedness and Nicholas with his sad past and drag queen future where a perfect fit for one another.  When Freda and Nicholas had issues you see Nicholas question Freda but as soon as Freda told him to back off and give her time he did.  I really liked that he did not push her and let her figure things out in her own time.
