How Do You Get Back Where You Truly Belong?
How do you come back from the biggest screw-up of your life? That's the question for Lawton Rastor, the billionaire bad boy from Detroit, after he lets the girl of his dreams not just slip through his fingers, but run away, fast – and with good reason.
How do you resist a guy who's irresistible? That's the question for Chloe Malinski, the world's most overqualified waitress, after a nightmarish night leaves her vowing to avoid her fantasy guy for good – no matter how hard he works to win her back.
Chloe finds Lawton impossible to resist. Lawton finds Chloe impossible to forget. But finding that place to belong isn't easy when neither one knows where the other truly comes from.
In Unbelonging we left off where Lawton had held Chloe tied down in his basement and then Lawton figured out that Chloe was innocent in the betrayal he thought she was trying to commit. After letting Chloe go she went ballistic (who wouldn't). Lawton of course feels horrible for his actions. Chloe is physically hurt from the ropes and her wrists are raw and bruised. Not something that Lawton would ever do to someone that he loved. And after finding out that Chloe was telling the truth he wanted to make things right. He still wanted to be with Chloe.
Rebelonging starts at this point. Lawton tries to explain to Chloe why he did what he did and why he was so hurt by the thought of her betraying him. Chloe still wants to be with Lawton, her body aches for him and she thinks about him constantly but he is a monster. What sane person would do that to someone.
Of course, you know how these stories go. The two main characters cannot live without each other so they go round and round in a stormy relationship with tons of ups and downs.
Chloe is still housesitting for the Parkers and now the checks are bouncing. Chloe thought her financial problems would be a kept for another day after the house sitting gig was over but now she has no idea what to do. Something strange is going on with the Parkers and she is not sure where she will live if the money does not come in and the house lease is up. She refuses to ask Lawton for money and she is still trying to uphold her agreement with not telling anyone. But when Lawton sees her taking cash from a stranger in an envelope and a hot flashy car outside the house there are tons of questions. Chloe tries to explain the job but leaves out the main part, Lawton thinks the worst and another fight happens.
My opinion on this is that Chloe should have told him in the beginning of the relationship about what her job was and if not until this fight scene then set him straight. I do not feel that this was Lawton's fault and I felt bad for him. In book #1 Lawton said "she does not remember" so that hinted to them meeting prior to her house setting. You will see what Lawton was referring too in this book. Clearing up the mystery.
When both are so miserable without the other and Chloe needs a favor, Lawton jumps at the chance to help her. Lawton is thrown to the wolves at Thanksgiving dinner and shown part of Chloe's world of family hell with Loretta. If they can survive Thanksgiving they can survive anything......
Excellent follow-up to this story.
The next in the series will focus on Bishop and the girl that got away......
