Jessie Dupree is part of the human recovery team for New Species. She is the only woman on the team and her main focus is to help in recovering the Gift Females that are found. Jessie is really bad with taking orders and even though the last mission they succeeded in recovering the female New Species and Jessie saved the lives of the guys on her team, she was also injured and pulled from the team.
Jessie had meet Justice the night before her mission and they seemed to get along really well. Justice knows that he will never be able to take a human as a mate but he wants Jessie and Jessie really wants Justice.
After she is pulled from the team, Jessie is given a new job working at Homeland and will be protected within the walls of the New Species compound. Justice wants to keep Jessie close and asks if they can have a secret relationship. Justice has it bad for this human but points out the complications of the relationship if it is made public. The problems would be on the New Species side and the human side, they definitely do not need more complications. Jessie is disappointed that they will be kept a secret but she agrees to his terms. After a little time passes and some more things about Justice come to light for Jessie she wants Justice to make it public or she will not be with him.
Justice is torn with a lot thoughts and feelings on the matter: Justice feels Jessie should be his mate but in claiming her publicly would let his people down. Justice feels that this relationship would lead Jessie's father to pull the support of the New Species and in doing so Justice would need to find another influential male to help with the humans. Justice would also need another money source and support of the New Species. Her father has a lot of influence and could also turn more humans against them.
What is a Hot New Species Leader to do? Justice needs to choose but even if he chooses to let Jessie go she will never be allowed another male in her bed as long as she is in Homeland. Justice has made it clear that he would kill any male that comes near her.
Jessie feels that if Justice can not publicly claim her then she is free to see whomever she wants. And when she sees that she can't she if furious. Jessie needs to force the issue and walk away from all of it in hopes to get Justice to give in to her demands.
I loved this part of the series. My favorite female character so far. Jessie is not the girly, helpless woman who runs in fear. She has guns and experience and there is a part in this book towards the 85% range that I was screaming "Yes kill that bastard". The description in the scene of Jessie standing over a New Species male who is injured with two handguns in front of her ready to take on the world was awesome. I love when I woman can be bad ass. I did have a similar feeling in Fury - Book #1 when Ellie took on the mercenaries in the tank. She kicked butt too. But Jessie is fierce and I would never mess with her.
