Matthew Reed has seen his share of problems. But he’s a Reed and Reeds can overcome anything. Matt is content working in his family’s tattoo parlor with his brothers surrounding him. The only thing he’s lacking is the ability to have a family of his own. Then his battle with cancer leads him to meet a woman who just might need him as much as he needs her.
She didn’t need anything...
Skylar Morgan is happy. She has a boyfriend. Sure, he doesn’t make her heart pound faster and he really doesn’t support her when she needs it. But she doesn’t need much. Does she? She’s happy to be self-sufficient and she’s happy that she doesn’t have a tremendous amount of responsibility. She’s educated, has a great job, and she has enough money for a lifetime. But what she lacks, she doesn’t even realize until she meets him. And them. The ones who change her life forever.
If you have read the books leading up to Maybe Matt's Miracle then you understand the struggles the Reed family has gone through. Matt has survived cancer and it is a true miracle.
Through treatment Matt meets Kendra. But unlike Matt, Kendra loses her battle with cancer. She has 3 children who depend on her. Kendra's dad asks Skylar (Kendra's half-sister) to take them in and care for them. Skylar has never meet Kendra but it was because of the situation with her father and mother not Kendra. Sky's father was cheating on her mother for years and taking care of another family without her. Sky's mother was a train wreck and basically forbid Skylar from communicating with them. Kendra is biracial and her father being white and mother being black had a very big impact on her Mom's outlook.
Skylar does not care about the racial background of Kendra's children. Sky takes one look and Seth, Mellie and Joey and falls in love. She wants them and from that moment forward they are Skylar's kids.
Sky meets Matt at the hospital when she goes to get the kids after Kendra passes and they instantly have a connection. Skylar and Matt's relationship excels at a rapid pace and they flow nicely to the end together. There is a tiny bump in the road and then they are back on track. Matt does not want to waste time, since he understands how precious that can be now. He wants Sky, Seth, Mellie, and Joey to be a family. He sees that his family and Sky's family work well together and has no worries that they will not fit together.
I really liked this book because even though it was at a rapid pace from the start of the relationship until the end of the book I felt as though it was the correct pace. I love that the author did not have too many bumps for the new couple and had it mostly go smoothly.
Nice and happy read.
