Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop student with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

Because for every one person in the world with abilities they can control, there are three who lack such skill. These lesser super beings, Powereds as they are called, have always been treated as burdens and second class citizens. Though there has been ample research in the area, no one has ever succeeded in turning a Powered into a regular human, let alone a Super.

Just This Once by Rosalind James

    Escape to New Zealand #1
Everyone needs to be rescued sometimes.

Everyone but Hannah Montgomery, that is. She just needs a vacation. Three weeks in New Zealand to sort out her life, figure out what she wants, seems just right. Oh, and to relax. She should definitely put that on the agenda. She certainly isn't looking for a fling with a professional rugby player, no matter how attractive he is. Hannah doesn't do casual. But maybe just this once. . .

Drew Callahan is happy to help Hannah find all the fun she's been missing. But as much as he's shared with her, he's kept one very big secret. And learning the truth, now that she's back home again, has made Hannah more wary than ever. Drew knows that she's right for him. But how can he convince her to let down her guard enough to explore what they could have together?

Note: This romance, like New Zealand, contains a bit of steam. If that isn't your cuppa, you may want to visit another country . . .  er, book.

Behind the Mask (Horstberg Saga - Volume 1) by Elizabeth D. Michaels

When You’re Hiding For Your Life, What Do You Live For?

Abbi has the gift of dreams. But her uncanny ability to see glimpses of the future has no apparent purpose or meaning until a dream leads her to a man on the brink of despair and destruction.

Cameron is a man without a name and without a country, framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Long ago forced into exile and believed dead, the passing of years have defaced him of all hope.

The country of Horstberg suffers beneath the weight of tyranny, and only Cameron holds the secret that could see her ruler undone and restore the people to peace and prosperity. While revolution brews and whispers of treason threaten all that is dear to Abbi, she remains unaware of her own ability to answer a nation’s prayers.

Trusting only her heart and the power of her dreams, Abbi gives all that she has to lead Cameron back into a civilized world, where love is real and freedom comes only in facing what hides behind the mask.

Jenny Undead (The Thirteen - Book #1) by J.L. Murray

    Dead girls don't cry.

In a world ravaged by disease and chaos, Jenny has a secret. She and her brother were part of a gruesome experiment conducted ten years earlier in an attempt to stop the zombie apocalypse. If the rumors are true, her mother was the hated pathologist who released the disease in the first place, leading to the destruction of government, civilization, and life as we know it.

Despite the constant terror of the undead, Jenny is as happy as a post-apocalyptic girl can be. She has friends, she's good with a knife, and she has Declan Munro by her side. But when she hears her brother might still be alive and living with the Underground, a religious group hiding in the now-defunct subway, Jenny jumps at the chance to find him. She infiltrates the group to right the wrong she caused when she ran away, leaving him in that lab.

When she finds him, though, Casey is not at all what she expected. He's been turned. And the impossible happens when Jenny is bitten. She and Casey are dead, but they're not like any other rotters. Their minds are still intact. And there are others: Thirteen children survived the mysterious experiments, and it's up to Jenny to find them and bring an end to the plague. But not everyone wants the chaos to end.

Between battling her hunger for living flesh and the all-encompassing rage that goes with it, and the realization that a killer is stalking both the living and the undead, Jenny has her hands full. Coming between a dead girl and the people she loves is a big mistake. Because if you can count on one thing, it's this:

    You wouldn't like her angry.

    This book contains strong language.

How do you get desperately needed answers when no one is talking?
Who do you trust in a place full of criminals, a place where it’s easy to mistake friends for enemies and enemies for friends? And how is it possible for one girl to seemingly vanish into thin air, especially when the place is surrounded by sixteen foot high electric fences?
When Trigg and his sister, Ren, are sentenced to township 101 for the crime of defending themselves, and Ren suddenly comes up missing, Trigg must ask himself these same questions. Something else he’d like to know is, how do you survive when the flaws of the NAO’s justice system has turned a simple punishment into a game of life or death?

Bannockburn Binding (Beloved Bloddy Time) by Tracy Cooper-Posey

In the early 23rd Century, vampires learned how to travel back in time, and created a time-tsunami that threatened life as we know it, until they corrected their mistake. They created the Chronometric Conservation Agency, which is tasked with preserving history and therefore protecting humanity's future. The Touring arm of the Agency offers trips back into the real past, with vampire guides, called travellers.

When Natalia (Tally) Marta, vampire and traveller, takes her client to visit the siege of Stirling Castle in 1314, she is caught and held hostage for ransom by Robert MacKenzie, a Bruce clansman. Rob finds himself drawn to the wilful, stubborn and very different English lady he has captured and the relationship becomes an intimate, highly-charged sexual pairing. Swiftly, Tally and Rob realize their bond is more than sexual, that the emotions stirring their hearts are true.

Christian Lee Hamilton, vampire, one of the last true southern gentlemen, and Tally's ex-lover, knows the 1314 time marker enough to jump back and help Tally return home. His arrival at Bannockburn adds complications, for Christian finds himself drawn to Rob MacKenzie as much as Tally is. But neither of them can stay in the past forever. To do so means certain death.

WARNING:  This book contains two hot, sexy alpha heroes, frequent, explicit
and frank sex scenes and sexual language.  It includes heart-stopping sexual

Conundrum (Iris Reid) by Susan Cory

She hopes  to untangle the events that led to her friend's death. But the murderer has  other plans. When a long-ago boyfriend turns up dead the night of the

The Boy Who Lit Up The Sky (Two Moons of Rehnor) by J. Naomi Ay

Lydia Kalila, the Princess Royal of Mishnah, is forced into marriage with the son of her country's mortal enemy for the sole purpose of producing an heir.  Duty comes before personal choice for a princess, especially when her country has been at war for more than a thousand years.  Lydia's pregnancy removes her brother and new husband from their respective lines of succession, placing her yet unborn infant at the head of both queues.  No one is happy about this, especially Lydia who dies during childbirth from wounds caused by the talon-like toenails of her very strange newborn son.

Grief stricken at the loss of his daughter, the Mishnese King hastily sends Senya, his infant grandson off to a decrepit inner city orphanage with the intent to retrieve him much later when things got sorted out.  At the orphanage, Senya is protected by the invalid Sister Meri who instantly falls in love with the little fellow.  She's not bothered at all by his strange telekinetic and telepathic powers, flickering pupil-less silver eyes, or wicked clawed toenails. The House Father takes a shine to the lad too, and when Senya is six years old, he is summoned to the Father's chamber.  The Father ends up in flames, forcing Meri and Senya out into a snow storm running for their lives.

Thus begins the tale of Senya, a prince created to be king of a planet but tossed aside until his twelfth birthday when Lt. Taner, a Royal Guard detective is sent to retrieve him.  It is unclear to all whether Senya is the product of something good or something evil, but in either case, it is very apparent that he is something more than just Lydia Kalila's son.

Taking the job as lighthouse keeper on Gansett Island was the best thing she could've done for herself. On the island she's found amazing friends and a wonderful new life. There's only one thing missing and that's romance. She's recently asked her new friends to fix her up with some of the island's more eligible men. While her friends are busy arranging dates for her, Alex Martinez comes to cut the grass at the lighthouse.

He's given up everything to come home to Gansett to care for his ailing mother…

Alex has gone from cultivating orchids at the US Botanic Garden in Washington to cutting grass on Gansett, like he did as a teenager. Running the family business with his brother while managing their mother's dementia requires Alex's undivided attention until a sexy lighthouse keeper shows him there's much more to life than work and endless obligation.

During a scorching summer heat wave on Gansett, Jenny and Alex take comfort in each other, and what begins as a hot summer fling quickly becomes something much more lasting. But will it hold up beyond the heat wave when real life intrudes on their sexy interlude?

    Jenny & Alex's Story

Jenny Wilks came to the Island about 1 year ago as the new Lighthouse Keeper.  She needed a fresh start after her fiancé  died on 911 12 years ago.  Her friends think it is time to date again and keep fixing her up with the single guys of the island.  Jenny has had no sparks for any of them.

Alex Martinez has left a pretty good life to come back to the island to help his brother Paul take care of their mother Marion, who is suffering from dementia.  Marion's illness is taking it's toll of both of her sons.  Needed outside help they set up some interviews with nurses that are willing to move to the island for the job.  With the help of David they are hoping to get the relief they both need desperately.

Falling behind on the lawn service Alex steps in to cut the grass for some of their customers.  When Jenny complains that the grass needs to be cut, she had no idea that a barbarian on a lawnmower would show up at 5:30 in the morning waking her up from a dream that she desperately needed answers from.

Jenny is very upset to be woken up at this hour and storms out of the house to tell Alex to knock off the racket.  Throwing tomatoes at him to get his attention, Alex is stunned to see Jenny angry in her underwear ready to kill.

With the heatwave flooding the island with the highest temperatures on record Alex decides to cool off with a shower from the outside hose.  Jenny seeing this is speechless as emotions stir through her body that have be dormant longer than most volcanoes.  Speaking of volcanoes...... that first kiss was an eruption of passion.

Now with odds stacked against them but friends rooting them on, Alez and Jenny will try to make a go of this new found relationship.  Can Jenny handle Alex's family situation?  Can Alex handle Jenny's love for her dead fiancé?
