Do nice guys always finish last? In the new Extreme Risk novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Tracy Wolff, a burnt-out underdog and a vulnerable tomboy defy the pressure to be perfect and go after what they really want.
Bighearted and easygoing, Luc Jennings is falling behind in a family of serious overachievers. While he may be decent enough at snowboarding to turn pro and rack up some sponsors, he’s never topped any podiums—unlike his friends Z, Ash, and Cam. Luc’s always been head over heels for Cam Bradley, but she’s never seen him as anything more than a friend. Now, after years of coming in second, Luc can’t take it anymore—especially if it means watching Cam chase another guy.
Cam hangs out almost exclusively with dudes, and that’s fine by her. She’d much rather be shredding at the Olympics than primping in the mirror. Cam’s wildest dreams have a way of coming true—except when it comes to getting her longtime crush and best friend, Z Michaels, to notice her. Then her mother suddenly shows up after being gone for, like, ever, and Cam’s whole world comes crashing down. Desperate for a place to lay low, she turns to the one person who’s always had her back.
Try as he might to move on, Luc could never leave Cam hanging. He lets her crash at his place—and it isn’t long before she winds up in his bed. With Cam running scared and her icy facade starting to melt at last, Luc’s determined to finally win the only prize that matters.
*******************************************Cam & Luc
Cam is an awesome athlete. She is the #1 woman on the slopes. She and Luc have been best friends forever. Luc has also been in love with Cam forever. But Cam has always had a crush on Z. Z, Ash, Cam and Luc all run on the slopes together. Z has never been interested in Cam in a romantic way so he never address the crush. Z meet his one and only Ophelia and is very happy. Cam loves Ophelia and agrees that her CRUSH was misplaced.
After a one-night-stand with her best friend Luc, Cam freaks out and things between them are tense. Cam wants everything to go back to the way they were before that night but since she thinks about it non-stop she’s not sure that it can. Luc is hurt and feels rejected by Cam after that night. Luc tries to ignore Cam and tries to get on with his life but when Cam ends up at his door step needing his help all the tension and weirdness is replaced with passion.
This time Luc freaks out and can’t trust Cam with his heart. Cam leaves the relationship and tries to move past it. She is training harder than ever before but then a medical situation takes her out of the competition and she will be sidelined for about a year until it is resolved. Luc needs to be there for Cam and feels responsible for a lot of the stress that Cam is under now.
Z and Ash’s advice to Luc to man up and go get his woman make Luc get his butt in gear. Cam comes to the realization that she has always loved Luc but was scared and they try to find their way back to each other.
I like how strong Cam is and she is right Luc did not trust her. He was unwilling to fight for her because he was too afraid to be rejected. That was Cam’s issue in the beginning. Afraid of her feelings for Luc. I am hoping that there will be more in this series maybe with Ash’s younger brother or with Hannah later on in life.
