Kelly DeMarco is out of Marcus Chapman’s league. When they met in high school he was besotted with the blue-eyed goddess, but she never gave him the time of day.

High school is now over and the tide is turning.

Five years later, Kelly is job-hunting and the best she can find happens to be Marcus Chapman’s personal assistant. He is thrilled by this second chance and determined to win the beauty’s affections, but Kelly has no intention of falling for the “class clown.”

What you’re looking for can be hiding right in front of you.

In spite of her resolve, Marcus’s playful charm begins to chip away at Kelly’s protective veneer, and she starts to realize that tall, dark, and mysterious isn’t a requirement, and sometimes Mr. I Don’t Think So can actually be Mr. Perfect.

Will Kelly’s obsession with keeping up appearances push Marcus away, or will he have enough drawing power to convince his favorite girl that honest love can outclass anything?

Marcus is a band manager with Torrence Records. Kelly is set to inherit Fashion Empire. Marcus has loved Kelly DeMarco since the moment he laid eyes on her in high school. Kelly ignored him and was mean to him but Marcus loved her anyway.

Kelly wants real world experience, she wants to do her own thing, find her own boyfriend and she does not care about the FAMILY BUSINESS.

Kelly gets a job working for Marcus and at first does not realize it is the same NERDY Marcus from high school. But they have both changed and Marcus is charming and cute now. But he still is very much in love with Kelly.

Determined to make Kelly smile and laugh Marcus takes things at a good pace until he can get Kelly to take a chance, trust him and open her heart and mind to new possibilities.

Kelly is afraid and needs to trust Marcus and these new feelings she is feeling when they are together.

Kelly has to choose between life of a wealthy, bored, marrying for the good of the family girl or a life of smiles, happiness, laughter, safety, and love.

Loved this story and the fight that Kelly has internally from the beginning to the end. Growing up in a certain society and trying to fit into that lifestyle when you never feel like you ever have. I loved it.

Book Review: Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs

Fire Touched
Mercy Thompson - Book #9

Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?

Aiden is fire touched. Thought to be a fae but the boy who appears to be a 10 year old is several decades old and human. How did that happen? Underhill changed him.

So I admit I absolutely love Mercy Thompson and the pack of Werewolves that she runs with. But I get very lost with all the Old Joe/Coyote and Magical Lands talk.

I could be wrong in my interpretation but it appears to me that some human children were stolen and Underhill being a place as well as a Fae Being changed the children by making them be able to control the 4 elements. Fire, Water, Earth, Air..... of the 4 children Aiden is the only survivor. Aiden escapes Underhill leaving her alone and mad. Underhill is only accessible through the Fae Sanctuary. Underhill is feared by most of the Fae and the Fae want Mercy and Adam to return Aiden to make her happy.

Underhill's minions have unleashed a Troll on the bridge who is very dangerous and eating cars and or people. After taking on the Troll the Fae want to make a deal with the Wolfpack. Mercy declares the Tri-City as their territory and states protection for all that the wolf pack deem worthy and necessary, which in turn starts a feud with the Fae.

The Fae want to make a deal in order to keep peace between the Fae and the werewolves but in order to do so they want Aiden. Adam will not give them Aiden. Aiden does not want to go back and be a prisoner. So their deal includes Aiden giving them a Fae artifact from Underhill. So Adam, Aiden and Mercy need to go into Underhill and survive her and the Fae that want the war with the human and wolves.

The story dealing with Underhill was very hard for me to follow. She is a Fae being and a place but living and magical, evil but caring for Aiden.... Very difficult to understand. I understood that Underhill cares for Aiden and is alone. She wants company and likes to play games but doesn't understand FREEDOM or the dangers that Underhill and Faeland hold for Aiden.

Aiden's character is a nice addition to the pack. I hope in the next part of the story they make it official and make him pack.  It will be good since he can help Joel control the Tibean/Fire Dog Demon.

Once again Mercy gets into a bit of trouble and takes the pack with her. Although her intentions make since and Adam backs her decision to protect Aiden.

Mercy takes a lot of crap from the pack about not belonging since she is a Coyote shifter and not a werewolf. Mercy can stand up for herself and has always defended herself when needed. But Mercy is still caring, loving. loyal, and puts her life on the line for any pack member, she deserves some respect. Adam feels the same way and is tired of the BS dished out to Mercy. Adam puts his foot down and demands that the pack respect and treat Mercy as the ALPHA's mate.

It's about time. I wondered how long Adam was going to let the judgement and disrespecting of Mercy go on. He is the Alpha and the pack should RESPECT his decisions even if they disagree. Mercy is Adam's decision.
